4 COMPLETE PAINTINGS

Alas, my flatmate Jared has bronchitis and I fear I may have the same. Headed to the doctor tomorrow in Blonduos, the next town over. At least the weather has been unbelievable and I've been sitting in my bay window enjoying it.

Several small works are in progress, but thus far I have finished 4 paintings. I posted the underpainting first, which is in watercolor, and then the the completed piece with the layers of pen and ink, oil pastel, and watercolor pencil. This has been fun to dabble in new mediums. The underpainting is inspired from photos taken of the landscape here in Iceland and the architectural imagery is from Reykjavik.

Near The Harbor (Spakonufell/Reykjavik)
-Spakonufell (Prophetess Mountain) is the mountain here in Skagastrond. Þordis the prophetess lived there and was skilled in witchcraft. Apparently, she walked up to Spakonufell every day and combed her hair with a golden comb. She hid her gold in the mountain and put a spell on it so that no one could use it except women which were not baptized and who had not learned any of God's words. Quirky stuff!

Edge of Center (Bifrost/Reykjavik)
-Bifrost is a teeny town in the northwest surrounded by moss covered lava fields. Bifrost is also a burning rainbow bridge between Midgard, the world, and Asgard, the realm of the gods.
