FUN ROAD TRIP: SNAEFELLSNES & AKURYERI

Cate and I road tripped from Reykjavik to see the Snaefellsjokul mountain/glacier in the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. We also visited Thufubjarg cliff on the peninsula, where according to folklore, the poet Kolbeinn Joklaskald had an encounter with the Devil. They had a poetry duel and stood on the 2 cliffs; the Devil lost and fell into the sea. We stopped in Laugur for the night and enjoyed a geothermal hot pot and met friendly Icelanders and Danes. We then drove to Akuryeri, which is beautiful and the 2nd largest city in Iceland. We visited a weaver working on a loom in a gallery, saw the botanical garden, stopped for ice cream, the church, and explored the old streets.

Icelanders believe in little people and you often see gnomes in their yards or balconies!
