ICELAND: ÞINGVELLIR

"Þing" means parliament and vellir means "meadows". Parliament met from 930 to 1879 here. Iceland was then ruled by Denmark until World War II, during which it established itself as a republic. The North American and Eurasian plates meet here and have created deep ridges in the landscape. Gorgeous!

ICELAND: HESTEIMAR HORSE FARM

Near the horse farm; you can see Mt. Hekla in the distance.

Horse back riding:

I had the best time visiting Hesteimar horse farm. You could see the active volcano Mt. Hekla in the distance and the landscape was lovely. The guesthouse was cute and cozy and I went horse back riding the next morning!
