What in the world are we doing, you ask? Well, our good friend Laura was on NPR's "Charlotte Talks" radio show with a panel of local Charlotteans to talk about serious issues such as the economy, taxes, the arts, etc. Apparently the room they broadcast from has a fantastic floor to ceiling window facing a busy street uptown. So Cher and I decorated ourselves and paraded in front of the window while they were on LIVE! I could tell Laura was holding it in so hard! She told me on the break everyone said "what WAS that"???
Ah yes, I love my friends!

There was also a "space suit" performance artist commenting on the environment. He had an aquarium on his back filled with dirt and plants, and a tube ran from it to the inside of his helmet and various points on the suit. He handed me a flower. I am sure there are a myriad of possible interpretations, but mine was that we must rely on ourselves to improve the environment. Maybe it is a glimpse of the future--will we have to quarantine ourselves off and generate our own clean air/living spaces? Will we live in bubble worlds? He looked content, giving me a simple smile even though the suit caused him to move with an awkward and slow pace. To me, this symbolized the inconveniences we may have to adapt to if the environment continues to deteriorate.
Last week I attended the Gospel Shout with some friends. It is an annual event at the United House of Prayer For All People. I do not share the beliefs of the church, but I appreciated the experience in a universal and cultural sense. Much clapping, dancing, and singing ensued! The intensity and passion of the choir and musicians was so moving, I was teary-eyed and broke out in goosebumps through the whole thing!
